Winchester Model 1873 Rifle

This is a standard Model 1873 Winchester sporting rifle with 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent buttplate w/sliding brass trap for cleaning rods.  Caliber is 38 WCF.  Serial number in the 269,000 range and was mfd in 1888.  Standard original semi-buckhorn rear sight and front with original German silver blade.  Original dust cover.  Overall condition is NRA Antique Very Good with about 60% of original blue still remaining on the magazine tube and barrel with the balance turning plum brown.  Frame has mostly subsided to a smooth brown patina with areas of original blue in protected areas...i.e. around the sideplates and receiver flares, with speckled traces of blue toward the back of the frame and across the sideplates. Nice markings with 2 line barrel address and "38 WCF" located just in front of frame.  Brass loading block also has a strong 38 CAL marking.  Very Good screws throughout. Wood is in Fine condition retaining much of its original varnish and perfect wood to metal fit with the wood swelling just slightly over the metal...just like it was when it left the factory 120 years ago.  No chips, cracks, or repairs.  Bore is good overall with good rifling and a few scattered pits....fairly typical on a black powder era gun.  A good solid example of a Model 1873 Rifle with some original finish left.
