This is a Lee Enfield Royal Irish Constabulary Carbine in .303 British. The frame is dated "1897" and was manufactured by Enfield over "L.E.C." over Mark "I". It has a 20.75" barrel, early dust jacket over the bolt, magazine cutoff, sling swivels, handguard, bayonet lug, and the carbine style short magazine. Overall condition is NRA Antique Very Good+ to Fine with the metal still retaining most of its original blued finish with some pits on the barrel mostly underneath the handguard. The bore is in Mint condition with perfect rifling, still bright and shiny with no pits. Wood shows lots of use with typical military dings and marks one would expect to find on 100+ year old Enfield. There are two period arsenal repair splices in the forend...probably done 100 years ago by a meticulous English or RIC Armourer. Brass roundel in the stock reads "R.I.C. 1157." A nice example of an early RIC Enfield carbine.
