This is a fairly early example of the Model 1849 pocket made in the year 1851. .31 Caliber, 6" octagonal barrel, 5 shot cylinder, and two line New York barrel address. Serial number is in the 93,000 range and is 100% matching right down to the wedge and arbor pin. As you can see from the photographs, some overly-enthusiastic collector has polished and cleaned the metal, replated the brass straps, and refinished the grips. In spite of the cleaning, this is still a very sharp gun and shows quite well. It has an incredible cylinder scene with 95% of the roll engraving present depicting a stagecoach hold-up scene (see photos). The markings are all good and legible with nice edges and clean lines. Action still works OK with tight barrel to frame lockup and a good bore. Nipples are modern replacements. The grips are solid but have been sanded down slightly below the gripstraps. In spite of its shortcomings, this gun has a lot of potential that could become worth much more with a little effort. A good example for the money. You'll have trouble finding a 49 pocket with nicer cylinder scene than this without investing considerably more!
