Colt 1877 DA Lightning Revolver w/ Rosewood Grips

This is an early Colt Model 1877 Double Action Lightning Revolver in .38 Colt in untouched condition. It has a 3-1/2" barrel known as the "storekeeper" model. Serial number is in the 19,000 range. Made in 1880. Early features include checkered rosewood grips, etched panel on barrel, and German silver front sight. All matching numbers on frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and cylinder. Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Fine. Strong markings throughout. Barrel retains strong original etched panel which clearly reads "COLT D.A. 38". Front sight has had the top edge filed down slightly. Breakdown of percentages of original finish on components are as follows: 35% blue on backstrap, 70% trigger guard, 80% cylinder, 5% barrel/balance gray. Frame has 20% original case colors, mostly in protected areas/balance gray. 60% fire blue on trigger. 65% fire blue on back of hammer face w/ 70% bright polish remaining on profiles. Screws are mostly Excellent...several in protected areas showing all or nearly all of their original fire blue. Rosewood grips are solid with strong checkering that show a few compressions and smudges. 50% original varnish remains on the non-checkered borders. No chips, cracks, or repairs. VG overall. Action is in nice shape...still cycling properly in both single and double action modes. Very Good bore. Nice example of an early Colt Double Action Revolver. Antique pre-1898.
