This is a nice example of a late nineteenth century Colt Double Action Army Revolver. 6" barrel, .38 Colt, with wood grips, and lanyard ring. Overall, it has much of its original finish remaining but also shows enough wear to let you know it did something more than just sit in some Army Officer's desk drawer. Antique serial number in the 100,000 range, this gun was manufactured in 1898 as a Colt Model 1895. Due to ongoing improvements in Colt's DA design, like most early DA's, this gun was sent back to Colt at the turn of the 20th century for upgrades. Many of these early Colt DA's found their way to conflicts in Cuba and the Phillipines.
Overall condition is NRA Antique Excellent with 90% original blue on the cylinder and frame. Frame shows some nice wavy forging striations peaking through the blue. Barrel shows about 80% mostly bright blue that is thinning on the sides from holster wear. Hammer and trigger still show some fire blue. Barrel has 1884, 1888, and 1895 Patent dates. Inspector marking "LEB" on side of the frame. RAC (Ronaldo A. Carr) inspector markings on the bottom of each grip, frame, and back of the cylinder. Grips are in good condition with no cracks or repairs. There is one surface flake/chip on the lower front corner of the right grip. Grips have nice wood to metal fit. Excellent bore. Good mechanics that work well in both Double and Single Action modes. A very nice gun and a great value for a Martially marked Colt with an antique serial number.
