This is a beautiful Colt Single Action in caliber 44-40 with 7.5" barrel. One of the best examples we've seen in quite a while. The left side of the barrel has the FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER marking. Standard blued finish/case color hardened frame with checkered hard rubber grips. Antique serial number in the 179,000 range. Made in 1898.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 75% original case colors on the frame that range from strong to light with brighter colors in the more sheltered and protected areas. The cylinder has 90%+ original blue with some minor scratches. Barrel shows 94% original blue with a small area of wear on the left side near the muzzle. The only significant area on the gun in terms of finish loss are the grip straps which have worn to bare metal. Bottomstrap and trigger guard still retain most of their original blue. Mechanics are crisp and tight with a great bore. Checkered hard rubber grips are excellent with no chips, cracks, or repairs. All in all, a very strong example of the Colt Model Single Action Army within a desirable antique serial range.
