Here is another near mint unissued example of a 7mm Model 1895 Chilean Contract Mauser built by Ludwig Loewe of Berlin. A group of these were discovered back in the 1950's and 60's still in their crates...stored for more than 50 years in pristine condition. This one was purchased right out of the crate back in the 1960's by a man who bought 7 or 8 examples....I guess for one wasn't enough...I think we have the same problem! He had this rifle carefully stored for another 40 years until his recent passing. These rifles were purchased by his friend and we were lucky enough to obtain 3 of the best ones before they all sold from this group and now a final 4th. It appears to still be in unfired condition. There is still cosmoline in the protected areas. Both the receiver and stock have the Chilean crest; the latter dated "1895". All numbers are matching...including the bolt and cleaning rod. Metal retains 99.9% bright original blue. Bolt still has all of its original bright polish and has not dulled or faded. Screws, band springs, sight elevator, trigger, and bolt catch release still show 98% all of their bright original fire blue. The wood is in Excellent condition with the exception of some minor dings and bruises from being stored in crates within vert close proximity to other 1895's for so many years. The walnut has not darkened with age and still has a light reddish blond color. Perfect action and a mint bore.
We've said this before and we'll say it again! The Model 1895 Mauser is one of the best if not THE BEST combination of value and high condition currently on the market for Pre-1898 antique collectible firearms. With values on minty guns sky-rocketing at auctions and gun shows, I can't think of a single gun by a well-known maker of this quality and condition that can be found for under 1000 dollars. These guns have already doubled in value over the past 4 or 5 years but they're still well under-valued and should continue to rise significantly over the next few years. This a lot of gun for the money and would make a great investment for the collector on a budget who appreciates 19th century quality and craftmanship.
