18 Relic .44 Henry Rimfire Shells

These are 18 dug up .44 Rimfire copper shell casings that were dug up by a relic hunter.  As you can see, they have symettrical dual firing pin indentations indicating these shells could only has been fired by a New Haven Arms Henry Rifle or its successor, the 1866 Winchester...also known as the improved Henry.  Both these early repeating rifles were designed had dual firing pins to better insure these sometimes unreliable early rimfire catridges were fired.  There is even one interesting casing, that shows 6 firing pin strikes indicating the shooter had to make 3 attempts by placing the shell at different positions in the breech before the shell was successfully fired.  Of the 18, at least 13 Have "H" headstamps produced by Winchester, 2 are "U" for Union Metallic Cartridge Co., and 3 are covered in too much dirt and/or vertige to tell.  Of the 18, 12 are fairly good straight cases and the other 6 are bent somewhat...although they could be straightened if desired.  A neat collection of 44 rimfire casings.  With the Henry rifles bringing 5 digit price tags, boxes of shells bringing thousands, and even individual shell selling in today's market for 25-35 dollars apiece, this is as close as it gets to early Winchester and Henry Rifle history for less than 100 bucks!
