This is a World War One vintage Model 1917 manufactured by Remingtion Arms of Ilion NY.  This one has the early type scabbard with leather frog riveted to the body of the scabbard.  These proved to deteriorate in combat conditions and trench warfare and were soon replaced by an all metal design.  Fortunately, this one has survived in great shape.  The blade has 2 toned finish and is dated 1917 with Remington Logo inside a circle.  Opposite side of blade marked "U.S." with a flaming ordnance bomb and inspector's symbol with an eagle head #23.  The blade has most of its original phosphate to blue finish and shows no nicks or damage. Very good walnut grips with double notches on each side.  The scabbard is in Fine condition retaining most of its original green paint with inspector initials "GUW" on the body and "GUW 1917" on the Frog.  This would make a great accessory to any US Model 1917 Rifle or Model 1897 Winchester Trench Shotgun.
