Remington Rolling Block Rifle

This is one of the nicest military Remington Rolling Block rifles we've had in several years.  The action was so simple and rugged that they were virtually impossible to wear out.  Remington exported these rifles all over the world and most saw quite a bit of use and abuse over the course of a long service life.  That said, this rifle is approx. 135 years old and still appears to be un-issued.

Caliber is .43 centerfire.  My guess would be .43 Spanish or .43 Egyptian. Barrel measures 35" secured by three bands.  Military style ladder rear sight.  Complete with original sling swivels and cleaning rod.  Upper tang has the Remington address along with multiple patent dates running from 1864 to 1874.  The sling swivels also have tiny patent dates on the lower portions of the ring dated 1868.

Overall condition is NRA Antique Excellent with 90% original strong case colors across the receiver with a few minor brown spots (smooth, not pitted) from oxidation.  The breech block, hammer, and pins have 90% bright blue overall with minor spotting.  The barrel also shows 90% strong original blue overall with some small areas of rust from poor storage.  Barrel bands have 75% original blue overall.  Fine+ wood with nice wood-to-metal fit.  No chips, cracks, or repairs. Even the buttplate has 80% original blue remaining.  Action works perfectly.  Bore is MINT....mirror bright with crisp rifling and no pitting.  An exceptionally nice example of a military Rolling Block.
