This is Mid-1870's vintage Remington Rolling Block rifle in its original 3 band military configuration complete with ladder sights, cleaning rod, and sling swivels.  The bore measures out to .43 - .44 caliber and most likely something like .43 Spanish.  Sorry, I don't have any cartridges to verify that.   The gun is very clean with nice edges and markings which includes a strong Remington & Sons address on the upper tang with 9 separate patent dates that range from May 1864 up to March 18th, 1874.  Given the prolific number of patent dates and more to come, my guess is this rifle was probably built sometime around 1875.  These Remington Rolling blocks are probably some of the strongest actions ever designed and their strength and durability resulted in orders and military contracts from around the world. 

Overall condition is NRA Antique Very Good.  This rifle has been stored for many years as there is old dried grease in the corners and protected spots.  It should improve considerably with some careful cleaning. The metal still retains most of its original bright military polish that is beginning to haze over to a light patina.  Good strong edges, markings, and knurlings throughout.  The wood has never been sanded or redone and still swells slightly proud of the metal like it did back in the 1870's when it was new.  The wood shows typically military handling with some dings and bruises but still looks nice overall and better than you normally find on a rolling block.  Nice working action. Bore is in Excellent condition....still bright and shiny with excellent rifling....no signs of serious pitting, rings, or bulges.  A nice solid example of a large frame Rem rolling block that isn't worn out or been refinished.
