This is a nice example of a Winchester 3rd Model 1873 semi-deluxe rifle. It has a special order case colored receiver with striped walnut stock and platinum-lined Rocky mountain front sight. Serial number is in the 224,000 range and dates to 1887. Caliber 38-40 with a standard 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate. Overall condition grades easily to NRA Antique Fine with 55% light but discernable original case colors on the frame. The balance is hazing over to a light brown patina. Forearm cap is faded but also shows some light mottled colors. Lever has turned mostly brown with 25% faint mottle colors while the hammer shows 80% good original case. Barrel and magazine tube retain 75% origina blue. There are a two dings on the top of the barrel near the address (see photos). Original semi-buckhorn style rear sight. Excellent wood with perfect wood to metal fit still shows 80% original varnish. Excellent bore and mechanics. A nice solid example of a scarce semi-deluxe Model 1873.
