This is a scarce blued Model No. 1 1/2 S&W Single Action Pocket Revolver in .32 Caliber with 3" barrel. Made from 1878-1892, 97,000 No. 1 1/2's were made by S&W's Springfield plant. All are considered Pre-1898 Antique Guns. This particular example is in the 96,000 serial range and was one the last few hundred made probably in the year 1891-92. As hard as it is to find blued pocket S&W's in high condition, locating one in the original box is extremely tough. While we've had nickel plated 1 1/2 SA's in the box, this is the only blued one we've ever seen outside of a book. The only other blued S&W in the box we've had was a Double Action which we saw yet again recently at a show priced for nearly double what it brought 2 years ago.
Overall, this one has 95% bright shiny original blue overall with nice case colors on the hammer, straw tempered trigger and correct factory original nickel plated front sight blade, extractor, and grip screw (Nickel plated components on a blued gun you ask? YES, that's how these were made and they're 100% correct and original). The balance of the screws still exhibit much of their original fire blue. The hard rubber grips are perfect with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The action is in beautiful condition with a nice bore that exhibits strong rifling and minimal to no pitting.
The original box is in fair+ condition, a bit tattered on the edges with a small tear in the bottom. The inside of the lid has the original S&W factory instructions. The owner even wrote down a few notes on his ammunition preferences on the inside of the cardboard base. The original green label was found mostly intact inside the box as there is evidence it fell off the outside end of the box...could easily be reattached. You can read most of the label which correctly indicates 3 important features of this gun...1. its a single action and the more common double action. 2. It has a 3 inch barrel. 3. It is marked "BLUED" which confirms the configuration of this revolver....while I'm not a "well read" S&W Guru, from personal experience, green colored labels tend to indicate the scarcer blued finish while orange labels generally indicate nickel finish.
