| Smith & Wesson 1 1/2, early Model |
|
This is the 1st issue of the Model 1 1/2 S&W in Caliber 32 rimfire. It has the lines of the larger No. 2 belt revolver with octagon barrel and round cylinder. Made from 1865-68. Overall condition is NRA Antique Fine+ with 85% bright original blue on the frame and cylinder with complete coverage...the balance is due to freckling from age more than wear. Like most S&W's, the barrel blue has flaked to about 30% finish. We've always suspect this had something to do with heat and expansion after repeated firing because you see this on so many S&W models built during the latter 19th century. Hammer shows some original case colors that have darkened with age. Original rosewood grips are excellent 97% original varnish. No chips or cracks. Hinge is solid with no cracks with a little play...which is common on tip-up frames. Good working action. VG+ bore that is nearly Fine showing bright lands and grooves with some minor spots of light corrosion. A very strong example of an early 1 1/2.
