This is an early 2nd Model DA Revolver in .38 S&W. Note the cylinder with its short flutes and extra set of stop notches...these were later dropped. Built from 1880 to 1884, this one is fairly early in the 24,000 serial range (4001-119,000) which will probably date it around 1880 or 1881. Patent dates on barrel only go up to 1880. Standard 3 1/4" barrel, nickel finish, and checkered hard rubber grips. All matching numbers. Overall condition NRA Antique Excellent with 96% bright original nickel. Strong case colors on the hammer and trigger. Triggerguard and barrel latch show 80% original blue. Nice mechanics. Barrel latch is super tight. Very Good bore has strong rifling...but a tad frosty with a few light pits...which is quite respectable in my opinion for an 1880's vintage black powder weapon. Aside from a few nicks, the hard rubber grips are in near perfect condition. Still black showing no fade with excellent checkering. Metal fit is perfect. No chips, cracks, or repairs. A nice example of an early S&W...and in better shape than most...including some still in their original boxes.
