S&W No.1, 3rd Issue Pocket Revolver in .22 Caliber with 3 1/8" round barrel, fluted seven shot cylinder, and birdshead style rosewood grips. Finish is Blued/Case Hardened. These are a real bear to find blued examples with this much original finish. They show a propensity for flaking badly on the barrel and cylinder...probably from heat expansion from use as well as carry wear. The result is that while you tend to Find No. 1's with good frame finish but cylinders and barrels that are mostly brown. This revolver is exceptionally good and far above average. The barrel has 80% strong original blue with the balance flaked in a couple of spots along each side...this was probably fired sparingly as the gun overall shows very little use. The cylinder also shows about 85% original blue. The frame retains 98% strong bright original blue including the grip handles. The hammer exhibits strong vivid original case colors. This gun also has one of the best cartridge ejector rods I've ever seen with practically all of the original case colors present. Even the face of the spur trigger shows some mottled colors. The rosewood grips are perfect with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Perfect wood to metal fit with 97% original piano varnish. Mechanics are all good and working. Tip-Ups often have a little wiggle in them where the the barrel is hinged to the frame. Even nice ones usually have a little wobble in them. Not so on this one! The Barrel to frame lock-up is perfect and tight with no play of barrel wobble. Bore is almost perfect. Comes with an old hand-made wooden case...not factory but appears to have been with this little revolver for a very long time and has done an exceptional job protecting it from moisture and the elements. An exceptionally nice example of an early spur trigger S&W.
