| Smith and Wesson No. 1, First Issue w/ Ivory Grips |
|
This is a nice example of an early Smith and Wesson Number One, First Issue revolver with factory Ivory Grips that are numbered to the gun. Standard 22, seven shot with silver plated frame and blued barrel and cylinder. Serial number is in the 8000 range which makes this one a Sixth type. Overall condition is NRA Antique Very Good with 97%+ original silver plating intact. The barrel and cylinder have aged to a dark patina with original blue still mixed in with the patina and protected areas. This one is basically untouched and would improve with some careful cleaning. Markings on the barrel and patent dates on the cylinderare perfect but filled of accumulated dirt and dried oil and grease over many years. Action works perfectly. Barrel to frame lockup is tight like new. Bore is nearly perfect...bright and shiny. The ivory grips really make this gun. They have somehow survived almost 150 years without being cracked or broken and they fit perfectly to the gun. We removed the grips and found the serial number in pencil on the inside panel of the right grip (see photos). They fit to the metal perfect. A nice early example of Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson's very first revolver!
