This is a strong example of the S&W .32 caliber Model 1-1/2 Single Action Revolver. Standard 3-1/2" barrel with five-shot cylinder, nickel finish, and early style checkered hard rubber grips. The rear strap of the handle is inscribed "JAS H. SCHOONMAKER". With the middle initial present in the inscription, there is an excellent chance the original owner of this pistol could be positively identified and further researched. The .32 caliber Model 1-1/2 SA was produced from 1878-1892 with a total production of just over 97,000. The serial number is in the 28,000 range. It was likely mf'd during the early 1880's but an exact date can be obtained by ordering a factory research letter from Smith and Wesson. Barrel has numerous patent dates ranging from 1865-1877.
