S&W 1880's 2nd Model .38 DA Revolver

This is a very early 2nd Model S&W Double Action Topbreak Revolver. Caliber .38 S&W with 3-1/4" barrel, nickel finish, and checkered hard rubber grips. The 2nd Model was manufactured from 1880-1884 and is easily distinguished by its early style cylinder with double stop notches and half-flutes. Unlike the square shaped side plate of the 1st Model, the 2nd Model used rounded sideplate for additional strength to the frame. Serial number on this one is in the 90,000 range. 100% matching numbers. This includes the frame, cylinder, barrel, and latch. Grips are original as well (although I didn't have the heart to pull them to check for numbers as they appear to have never been off the gun). Manufactured circa 1883. Barrel has May 11th and 25th 1880 patent dates.

Overall Condition is NRA Antique Excellent showing 80% Original nickel with some freckling and edge wear . Trigger guard and barrel latch show 80% original blue. Hammer and trigger show much of their original case colors which are faded but discernable. Checkered hard rubber grips are in Excellent Condition. No chips.. The action is in very good condition cycles in both single and double action modes. Latch is Perfect with zero play. Bore is Excellent. Nice example of a very early S&W Double Action.
