This little Smith and Wesson Double Action Revolver in 32 cal may be one of the best 3rd Models we've had. The third model was produced for only one year (1882-83). It has the rounded sideplate and only one set of stop notches...S&W did this to save money but it also eliminated complexity to the design making it more reliable. This one appears to be unfired and has standard Nickel Finish with case colored hammer/trigger, and a blued trigger guard and barrel catch. 3-1/2" barrel with 5-shot cylinder. The grips are the fancy floral pattern hard rubber grips which are seldom encountered and fairly scarce compared to standard checkered rubber grips. The tiny patent dates are a bear to photograph as I've seen specks of dust bigger than the markings but this one turned out pretty good. They run from 1865 all the way up to 1882...which is correct for the 3rd model. Serial number is in the 35,000 range which is also proper for a 3rd Model. All matching numbers.
Overall condition grades easily to NRA Antique Excellent+ with 98% original nickel plating that's mirror bright, showing only a few small spots of lifting and wear from storage. The hammer and trigger show all their original case colors which are strong. Latch and trigger guard have 98% bright original blue remaining. All screws appear unturned and frame and front sight pins are perfect...never been removed. Even the front/back faces of the cylinder retain all their original nickel. There isn't even an indention ring on the recoil shield from the gun being fired. That said, we believe this gun to still be unfired. Nice action with a minty bore. Barrel to frame lockup is still tight like new. An exceptional early 1880's vintage S&W DA revolver in collector grade condition, scarce floral grips, and in the less common 3rd model variant of the 32 DA.
