This is a nice Krag rifle. The Krag was the first widely issued bolt action rifle adopted by the US military, with the Model 1896 being widely issued during the Spanish American War of 1898. Serial number of this rifle is in the 51,000 range. Standard 30" barrel in 30-40 Krag with early type ladder sight graduated up to 1,800 yards. All sling and stacking swivels intact with bayonet lug located underneath front barrel band. Overall, metal is excellent with 90-95% original blue on barrel and bands. Action and sideplates show most of their original quenched or color hardened finish. Bolt is still bright and 80% fire blue located on the extractor. The wood is in Fine condition but may have been arsenal-redone as the cartouche on the left side of the stock is very faint...mostly border showing. The circle P proof on the bottom of the stock is a bit light but all there. Wood is solid with no chips or cracks...including the fragile top wood. Bore is excellent with a nice tight action. All in all, a very good representation of a Span-Am War era Krag rifle.
