Winchester 1892 Rifle w/ Low SN#

This is a hard-to-find example of an early Winchester Model 1892 Rifle in Excellent Condition. Serial number is in the 9,400 range which according to the Madis Book dates its production to the first year in 1892. Standard Sporting Rifle Configuration in caliber .32 WCF (a.k.a. 32-20) with 24" round barrel, full magazine, standard sights, and crescent rifle style buttplate.

Early Features: This is just a beautiful little 1892 with all the correct early features collectors hope to find. This includes the early two-line barrel address, early tang markings with John Browning's October 14th, 1884 patent date, and the seldom found early checkered hammer with decorative border with the little V-shaped dip at the top. Even the sights are original to the gun with the correct semi-buckhorn rear and standard blade front with German silver insert and pre-1894 era solid base with the set screw.

Condition: Most of these early pre-1898 guns got put through the mill and surviving examples are usually found in very worn condition. This rifle is one of the best early rifles we've had in a long time. Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 90% original blue remaining on the receiver and bolt. The barrel and mag tube retain 95% original blue with a few small nicks on the left side of the barrel. Forend cap retains 85% blue. Loading port on right side of frame has 80% bright original fire blue. Lever retains 50% bright original case colors while the hammer shows 80% case colors. Buttplate has mostly silvered and but still shows traces and shadows of mottled colors. Walnut stock and buttplate are in Fine+ to Excellent Condition Overall retaining 95% original varnish. A few light handling marks. Excellent wood to metal fit that still shows original factory fit with wood standing slightly proud of the metal. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Mechanics are perfect and the bore is Excellent Plus...almost Mint with strong lands and grooves that are still bright and shiny. For a small-bore Winchester rifle built in the black powder era, this rifle has an incredible bore. Just a beautiful early Model 1892 rifle in every respect.
