Winchester 1892 Rifle in .44 WCF w/ Early Four Digit SN#

This is an early first year production Winchester 1892 rifle in caliber .44 WCF. Low pre-1898 antique serial number is in the 4,000 range. Made in 1892. See photo. Standard 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate. Earliest style markings include the two line barrel address and three lines on upper tang with original Browning 1884 patent date. Nice early pattern hammer with the "dip" at the top of the checkered border. See photo. Original sights include standard Winchester semi-buckhorn rear with German silver blade front.

Overall Condition Grades to NRA Antique Very Good Plus with the metal worn mostly to a light gray that's turning over to a light brown patina. There is original blue remaining in all the protected areas...especially the bolt which has 80% original blue. Hammer shows 30% case colors with traces of colors at the top of the lever. Original wood has 75% original varnish with some light handling marks with some rack wear on the left side of the forearm. Wood is very solid with zero chips, cracks, or repairs. Nice mechanics and a Fine+ to Excellent bore. Screws are Very Good overall...especially on the frame. Nice untouched example of a very early 1892 in desirable 44-40 that's all original.
